清代康熙十二年，平西王吴三桂藩镇云贵两省，厉兵秣马、拥兵聚众，要谋反叛离清廷，康熙颁下御旨招吴三桂进京，特派钦差大臣南下昆明来到了平西王府……云南美丽的大理城下，正当白族百姓们在崇圣三塔下欢歌笑语的时候，吴三桂手下的一群官兵不由分说地开始抓捕壮丁，在白衣少侠和面挂朱纱侠女的帮助下，官兵们识趣地退将下去。从此，白剑青和宁宁结下了不解之缘……宁宁武功超群、神出鬼没，跟随白剑青同官兵角斗大闹草寇山寨，劫牢狱救白剑青脱险，还双双面见了陈园园……白剑青钟情不明身份的女侠宁宁，苍山洱海边，二人结下了一段奇缘。虽然雄踞云贵，但吴三桂在当地并不得民心，上有康熙皇帝的猜疑，下有李闯王手下的散兵游勇、前明余孽的威胁，精明的他处处设防、戒备森严。起兵前，吴三桂携王妃陈园园和女儿吴奇微服来到大理，一方面遍游当地的名胜古迹，另一方面也为了与前明将领金如意联手，共同谋划反清复明的对策。假扮江湖游侠的白剑青此番来到大理，就是奉康熙御旨密遣剌杀吴三佳。趁着吴、金二人不备，白剑青携手当地山寨王马彪灯等人前去剌杀吴三桂，却接连失利，就在最后孤注一掷、欲制吴于死地之际，宁宁却救下了吴三桂。揭开朱纱，原来女侠宁宁竟是吴三桂的小女儿吴奇！原来，陈园园、吴奇虽然是吴三桂至亲至爱的人，但是都反对这种逆天而行、置百姓生死于不顾的做法，几经劝阻未果后，吴奇母女觉得在众人的声讨中，吴三桂也许能够警醒。所以出现了一幕幕刺杀失利、暗中保护的场景。最终，吴三桂在亲人苦口婆心的劝阻和百姓的声讨中，放弃了违背民心、自立为王的念头。
